Memorial Day inspired us to finally get the kayaks out. We had a wonderful morning on Jordan Lake and followed a Bald Eagle around the shore. Eventually he started “screaming” at us so we stopped stalking him.
This spring, our hawks had three babies and all three grew up and left the nest late in June. We still hear them occasionally in the woods and we hope that a pair returns again next spring.
Ella ended her 2nd grade year with flying colors. She was also selected to receive the 2nd grade principal’s award, the 2nd grade Spanish award, and was recognized for her efforts as Recycling Coordinator for her class and as a Student Ambassador. Could not be prouder of her! She was sad to say good bye to her teacher and friends, but she quickly transitioned into summer-mode. To help make the transition, we had an end of the school year driveway party—many more to come this summer!
Jonah loves lazy summer days and looks for excuses to stay in his PJs as long as possible. He enjoys playing on the swing set, watering the garden, and playing in the creek and at the pool. He is getting better at writing and asks how to spell things so he can write them. He is deeply obsessed with all things Star Wars and we have checked out every possible Star Wars book from the library.
As soon as Ella’s school ended, we headed to the Outer Banks for our yearly beach a trip with the Egan family. Kayaking, sailing, paddleboarding, making sandcastles, swimming, playing games, playing rock band, reading, relaxing, fishing, having water fights, feeding the gulls,… great week. Unfortunately, Andrew had to work and only got a few afternoons/evening off during the week. However, he and Joe rocked Mohawks and Justin rocked a “reverse” friar tuck like hair do along with starburns.
We rushed home from the beach to pick up the dog and then make it to Ella’s 5th year recital with APA. She was in five numbers (including the finale). The Daddy Daughter dance was sweet and the Dads Only dance was hysterical. It was a really fun performance.
For Father’s Day, we braved the ridiculous heat and went to the driving range and did some practice putting. By 10:30, it was already too hot to even be standing outside… so we retreated. But, the kids had fun with daddy playing golf.
Andrew and I are heading off on our adventure next week. We are going to London for a week to make arrangements for a potential study abroad program for Summer 2011. The kids will stay here and be spoiled (I mean be taken care of) by Nana. THANKS, NANA!
Can’t believe it is already July!
