Home Engine+Drivetrain Suspension Brakes Exhaust Odds and Ends Costs Great Web Links Quilting???

This site is dedicated to detailing the installation of an all aluminum LS1, V8 engine, and 6speed T56 transmission removed from a 2000 Camaro Z28 and installed in a 1982 Volvo 245 Turbo Wagon.  While this car is not yet running it is well on its way to putting 300 RWHP in a boxy, very utilitarian, Volvo.   Hopefully, with the proper work, the suspension and other drivetrain components will be up to the task of keeping the power firmly planted.

The Exhaust

I used the stock 2000 Camaro exhaust manifolds that came with my LS1.  I purchased some year 2000 Corvette stainless steel manifolds as they seemed to "hug the block" more, however they did not clear the Camaro motor mounts.  I could have gotten some Corvette motor mounts but by that time it seemed easier to make the Camaro manifolds work.

As you can tell this is a close fit and requires more clearance, so here comes the five pound sledge hammer and voila, about 1/2 inch of clearance.

Driver's manifold with steering shaft:

This picture is before angle milling the manifold as covered in the JTR Volvo 200 series swap manual on pages 3-6 and 3-7 (you do have the book right?).  You can see the steering shaft touching the manifold heat shield at the top of the picture.  After milling the manifold there is a little more than 1/4" of steering shaft clearance.
